The College of Wooster took advantage of a two-out, eighth-inning error by Muskingum College as the Fighting Scots broke a 6-6 tie with a couple of unearned runs and ended up prevailing by that 8-6 score on "Senior Day" at Art Murray Field in Wooster, Ohio.

With the victory, Wooster (30-7) hits the 30-win mark for the 16th consecutive season.

Muskingum (21-15) came back from a 6-1 deficit with one run in the fifth, two in the sixth, one in the seventh, and another off of Scot closer Mark Miller (Convoy, Ohio / Crestview) during the eighth.

In the bottom of the eighth, Colin Meinzer (Toledo, Ohio / Central Catholic) earned a leadoff walk to start the game-winning rally for Wooster. Pinch runner Chris Wood (Lebanon, Ohio / Lebanon) swiped second base with one out, marking the junior's first career stolen base, and then advanced to third via a groundout. Next, Derek Wyman (Marysville, Ohio / Marysville) sent a ball off the end of his bat towards second and the fielder was able to block the ball, but in a hurried state, he threw the ball away, which allowed Wood to score.

Sean Kapren (Venetia, Pa. / Peters Twp.) and John Warren (New Castle, Pa. / Union Area) followed with singles through the left side, the second plating Wyman for an insurance run.

Miller, who was unable to convert the save, stayed in the game and wound up with the win as he only yielded a two-out single in the ninth.

Muskingum had an early 1-0 lead on Brock Whiteman's solo home run in the top of the first, but the Scots responded with three during the bottom of the frame. Warren walked, followed by Stu Beath's (St. Louis, Mo. / Avon Old Farms – Conn.) team-leading 15th double, and Matt Groezinger (Columbus, Ohio / Upper Arlington) scored them both plus himself via a home run, extending his streak of games with homers to four.

Wooster put up another three-spot in the fourth inning, again on a three-run homer. First, Zack Vesco (Pickerington, Ohio / St. Charles Prep) hit a leadoff double, and after a pair of outs, Wyman reached on a hit by pitch, setting up Karpen who cleared the bases with a drive to left-center. It marked his fourth dinger over the last five games, fifth of the season, and 15th of his career.

That was all of the Scots' scoring until the Muskies tied it up in the eighth.

Wooster's four seniors all played integral roles in their final regular season appearance at Art Murray Field. Anthony Trapuzzano (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Canevin Catholic) started on the mound and was in line for the win after going the first five innings, during which he gave up two runs on seven hits and struck out four without a walk. Instead, Miller improved to 8-1 for his work over the last two innings.

At the plate, Karpen led all players by going 3-for-5, highlighted by the three-run home run, and he also stole a base, while Warren reached twice in five plate appearances and did not make an error during six chances at second base.

The Scots will be back in action in about 24 hours as they have a rare Monday game scheduled at Mt. Union College (20-15) at 4 p.m.
