After pounding out 17 hits, 10 for extra bases, and putting up 16 runs during a 16-6 victory over Baldwin-Wallace College on Thursday, The College of Wooster's offense was at it again on Friday, this time producing 18 hits, seven for extra bases, which added up to a 17-0 win at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Wooster (15-3) opened with a two-run first inning, which featured a bunt single from Matthew Johnson to lead things off and two-out hits from Matt Groezinger and Greg Van Horn, the former being a double and the latter a single that brought home both base runners.

Case Western Reserve (10-13) set down the next seven batters in a row, only to see the Fighting Scots break the game open during the fourth as they scored six that frame. The key base knocks were doubles from Shane Swearingen and Stu Beath, each of which plated two runs. Beath's went to the opposite field (left-center) and gave Wooster an 8-0 cushion.

That was more than enough breathing room for starting pitcher Matt DeGrand, who shut down the Spartans for seven innings while upping his record to 2-1. DeGrand scattered eight hits, all but one of them singles, and struck out eight without issuing a free pass.

At the plate, the Scots would add single tallies during the fifth and sixth innings as well as seven more during the eighth and ninth, including a two-run triple off the bat of Chris Constantine. He hit a pinch-hit grand slam on Thursday.

Overall, Van Horn led the way with a 3-for-5, three-RBI effort, with one of those base knocks being his 10th double. Johnson (2-for-4), Zack Vesco (2-for-4), Michael DeBord (2-for-2), and Chris Wood (2-for-5) also notched multi-hit afternoons.

The two teams will play two more games on Saturday as a doubleheader at Wooster's Art Murray Field is scheduled for a noon start.
