LaGrange College scored twice in the top of the seventh to break a 2-2 tie and then held off a ninth-inning comeback bid by The College of Wooster to prevail 4-2 in a neutral-site match-up Monday at Xenia, Ohio.

Wooster (10-9) had jumped out early, stroking four doubles during the first three frames in taking a 2-0 advantage. After stranding two runners in scoring position in the first, Ryan Miner came through with a two-out double to score Zack Vesco in the second, but another runner was thrown out at the plate. Vesco had also doubled.

During the third inning, it was Johnathan Ray's two-bagger that allowed Zac Mathie to come around all the way from first after singling for the Fighting Scots' second tally.

After Ray's double, though, Kenneth Strack of LaGrange (13-18) set down 12 consecutive hitters. During the same time, the Panthers evened the score on David Miller's two-run homer in the fourth.

LaGrange's two-run seventh was keyed by a Miles Lee double, as he drove in one and later scored with two outs on Evin Eichelberger's single.

Wooster attempted to rally late, as Vesco and pinch hitter Cal Thomay earned two-out walks back-to-back in the ninth inning before Strack induced a game-ending groundout.

The Scots were paced by Mathie and Bryan Miller as they went 2-for-4 and 2-for-3 at the plate, respectively.

Next, Wooster will be at Chillicothe, Ohio, on Saturday for two more neutral-site games versus Wabash College (13-13) and Case Western Reserve University (16-10).
