The College of Wooster picked up a pair wins over Oberlin College, with Steve Hagen earning a save in the 7-4 first game and a relief victory in the 7-6 nightcap, as the Fighting Scots edged up the standings of the North Coast Athletic Conference East Division during Saturday's sweep at Oberlin, Ohio.

Wooster (19-11, 7-3 NCAC East) owned a 7-1 cushion entering the bottom of the seventh of the opener, but Oberlin (16-20, 5-9 NCAC East) made things interesting with four consecutive singles. That's when Hagen was summoned from the bullpen and he induced three groundouts to the four batters he faced for the versatile right-hander's third save of the season.

The Scots' offense scored in five of the seven innings. One came in the first on a Zac Mathie double, marking his 11th this spring, and then two in both the second and third, highlighted by a two-run homer to left-center by Billy Farrow the latter frame.

Ahead 5-1, Wooster added single tallies in the sixth and seventh, which turned out to be enough for starter Josh Stidham to earn the win (4-2). The senior right-hander only gave up two hits before the Yeomen got to him in the seventh, and he struck out four without issuing a walk.

In game two, the Scots only trailed briefly – 1-0 after one inning – but had to generate some late offense after Oberlin tied it during the seventh and eighth innings.

The Yeomen's Mattie DeDoes smacked a three-run home run in the seventh to knot the game at five. Then, Wooster manufactured an eighth-inning run via a leadoff single by Zack Vesco, a sacrifice bunt from Michael DeBord, and Ryan Miner's clutch base knock up the middle that plated Shane Gallagher, who pinch ran for Vesco.

Oberlin came up with its own run in the home half of the eighth to make it 6-6, only to see the Scots go back ahead shortly after Eddie Reese tripled to begin the ninth. He came home on a passed ball, and Zach Klein worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the frame to secure the win and his second save.

Hagen won his fifth game this spring (5-2), working 1.2 innings.

Offensively on the day, Ray went 4-for-9 and Farrow 3-for-8, including Wooster's only extra-base hit of the second game, a double in Wooster's two-run fourth inning. Vesco (3-for-7) and Craig Day (3-for-8) also combined for three hits.

The Scots, now just one back in the loss column of both Kenyon College (10-2) and Allegheny College (8-2) in the NCAC East, play another two-game set at Oberlin on Sunday, starting at noon.
