A day after winning the North Coast Athletic Conference championship, The College of Wooster was right back in action, using a four-run seventh inning to overcome northeast Ohio foe John Carroll University 8-5 on Sunday afternoon at University Hts., Ohio.

Resting most of its regular starters, Wooster (27-16) was behind 5-3 through six innings, but with the help of some wild pitching by John Carroll (18-20), the Fighting Scots were able to pull out their fifth victory in six games.

Zach Jergan was hit by a pitch and Shane Gallagher and Ben Cerami each walked to load the bases with two outs in the seventh, then Ryan Miner came through with a single that cleared the bases as Wooster took the lead with the help of an outfield error.

The speedy Miner wound up on third base and Bryan Miller singled him home to make it 7-5.

Frank Vance led off the eighth inning with a double and eventually scored for the three-run cushion.

After giving up five runs through five innings, Wooster's pitching staff of Brett DeWester, Jon Huisel, and Zach Klein combined to hold the Blue Streaks scoreless the last four. DeWester notched the win (2-0), Huisel faced just one batter over the minimum during the seventh and eighth innings, and Klein pocketed his third save of the season with a hitless ninth.

The Scots have final exams this week, then await the national office to release the brackets for the 2012 NCAA Div. III Baseball Championship.
