WOOSTER, Ohio – Cal Thomay belted a grand slam during game one's 9-1 victory and then The College of Wooster strengthened its hold on first-place in the North Coast Athletic Conference East Division with a 13-2 win on Sunday afternoon, completing the weekend sweep of Hiram College at Art Murray Field.

Wooster (19-7, 7-1 NCAC East) held a 2-1 lead entering the bottom of the third inning of the first game when it broke open the game with one big swing. The Fighting Scots had loaded the bases on a pair of walks sandwiched around a Johnathan Ray single with one out, when Thomay drove the first pitch he saw just inside the left-field foul pole for his first home run of the season and a 6-1 cushion. It marked the junior's fourth career home run and first grand slam.

Three unearned runs during the fifth inning accounted for the final eight-run margin.

Wooster starter Steve Hagen went the distance for the third time this season in improving to 4-1. The lone run he allowed was of the unearned variety, and he held Hiram (9-16, 0-10 NCAC East) to five hits while striking out six without a walk.

After the Terriers took a brief 1-0 lead, something they did in all four games over the weekend, during the nightcap, the Scots answered with a five-run second. Thomay and Frank Vance opened the decisive frame with singles to the left, and later with the bases loaded, Jarrod Mancine drew a walk for the first run. On the very next pitch, Bryan Miller dropped a single into left-center to plate two and Eddie Reese followed with a sharp RBI single through the right side. Wooster added an unearned run before the inning was out for the four-run advantage.

Miller drove in another run during the fourth, singling up the middle this time, and in the fifth, the Scots effectively sealed the outcome with three more runs. Brendan Taylor and Thomay started the inning with back-to-back singles through the left side, and with the bases loaded and two outs, Mancine hit a hard shot up the middle for a two-run single. Miller followed with a high chopper to third base, beating it out for another RBI base knock, his fourth run driven in of the game, to make it a 9-1 cushion.

On the mound, Wooster received its fourth complete game of the series as Kyle Koski started and finished for the first time in his career. One of the two runs he gave up was unearned and the hard-throwing right-hander equaled his career high with eight strikeouts and upped his record to 4-2.

Thomay had a five-hit day in six at bats, including five of the team's six RBI during the opener, while Mancine (3-for-7 with four RBI) and Ryan Miner (2-for-4) were the only other Scots to record a hit in each game.

Wooster is off until next weekend when it hosts another divisional series, as Oberlin College (13-13, 6-4 NCAC East) comes to Art Murray Field for a pair of doubleheaders.
