Steve Hagen threw the second complete-game shutout of his career, then College of Wooster teammates Matt Felvey, Hank Schlueter, and Jon Rothman combined for another shutout, as the Fighting Scots swept Oberlin College 10-0 and 3-0 in a North Coast Athletic Conference East Division doubleheader on Good Friday at Oberlin, Ohio.

Hagen was in command for the most part during the opener, as he scattered seven hits and walked two to lead Wooster (18-9, 9-1 NCAC East) past Oberlin (13-15, 6-8 NCAC East). He had to work out of a couple mini-jams, the most notable coming in the Yeomen's last at bat as they got runners on second and third with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Next, the senior right-hander induced a foul out, walked a hitter to load the bases, and closed it out himself by fielding a grounder to finish the win and level his record at 4-4.

By the seventh, the storyline was whether Hagen could complete the shutout because the offense had staked him to a 10-run lead. After plating one in the third and two in the fourth, which was highlighted by a Cal Thomay one-out double, the Scots broke the game open via a six-run sixth.

In that frame, Wooster loaded the bases without an out recorded on a Brendan Taylor single, Frank Vance two-bagger, and Thomay walk. John McLain greeted a relief pitcher with an RBI single into right-center, then Craig Day brought in two runs with a double into left-center. The first out came on Bryan Miller's sacrifice fly, and pinch hitter Billy Farrow and Eddie Reese later contributed RBI on a single and double, respectively.

The Scots' bats started the second game hot as well, with Zac Mathie pulling a two-out, two-run double into the right-center gap to stake Felvey to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Felvey kept Oberlin off the scoreboard for six innings. He stranded runners on second and third in the second, a double play erased a scoring threat in the third, and runners reached the corners with two outs in the fifth. Overall, Felvey, who improved to 4-2, allowed six hits and three walks before giving the bullpen the 2-0 lead.

Schlueter erased a leadoff hit with a double play while facing three batters in the seventh and Rothman worked a perfect eighth before running into a little trouble in the ninth inning. An infield single and two-out error brought the tying run to the plate, but Rothman forced a game-ending grounder to second for his third save.

The offense had given Rothman a little extra cushion in the top of the ninth. Mathie doubled for the second time and Thomay brought him home with a single up the middle.

Reese and Taylor produced two hits in each game, each going 4-for-7 to pace Wooster at the plate.

The Scots and the Yeomen will play another divisional twin bill on Saturday, starting at noon.
