After Muskingum University grabbed an early 5-0 lead, The College of Wooster rallied to within one run, but the Fighting Scots were later done in by the Muskies' three-run eighth inning as they dropped Monday's non-conference affair by an 8-5 count at New Concord, Ohio.

Trailing by five, Wooster (19-11) got into the game with a strong fifth inning. Kenny Reckart led it off with a single and a one-out base knock by Shane Gallagher set up Eddie Reese's RBI sacrifice fly. Billy Farrow not only kept the inning going, but his double to left plated Gallagher and Cal Thomay brought Farrow around on a single into right as the Scots were suddenly within 5-3.

Another Reckart leadoff single in the seventh inning resulted in another run. After an out, Gallagher walked for runners on first and second, and an infield error by Muskingum (12-16) followed, allowing Reckart to score, which made it a 5-4 game.

The turning point of the game, though, may have come later that frame when Wooster had the bases loaded and just one out only to see the Muskies get out of the jam with a 5-2-3 double play.

Muskingum turned that momentum into three runs in the eighth inning, which included back-to-back infield singles with the bases loaded.

Jarrod Mancine opened the ninth by clearing the fence in left for his second home run of the season. Gallagher tripled next and pinch hitter Zac Mathie later drew a two-out walk to bring the tying run to plate, but the Muskies' Alex VanDine closed it out via a grounder to short.

Gallagher reached base safely four times in five plate appearances with two hits (2-for-3) and two walks and Reckart also had the two aforementioned singles (2-for-4) to pace the Scots at the plate, while their most effective pitcher of the day was middle reliever Danny Reese, who gave up one run in 4.1 innings.

Wooster will be right back in action with a home game on Tuesday against John Carroll University (18-10) at 4 p.m.
