2014 Academic All-District Team

Jarrod Mancine and Cal Thomay of The College of Wooster were selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for baseball, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday. The Fighting Scot senior duo took up two of the 11 positions – Mancine in the outfield and Thomay in the infield – within NCAA Div. III District 7 (Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio), and they both now advance to the ballot for Academic All-American® consideration.

Mancine, Wooster's centerfielder, is in the midst of a standout season offensively, currently batting .448 out of the leadoff spot. In addition to his high average, he has reached base successfully 28 other times via 23 walks and five hit by pitches as part of a .526 on-base percentage. Mancine leads the league in both batting average and on-base percentage as well as runs scored (45) and hits (64), and he ranks among the top-35 nationally in average and runs. Mancine shows good power at times, too, with 10 doubles and four home runs, and he's produced 33 RBI.

Academically, Mancine owns a 3.39 cumulative grade-point average while majoring in mathematics.

Thomay, a corner infielder and three-year starter, is having a career-best season with a .377 average, 28 runs scored, eight doubles, 27 RBI, and 14 walks to this point. He currently ranks seventh in the North Coast Athletic Conference in batting and on-base percentage (.455), and smashed his first homer of the year two days ago during a 16-8 win over Ohio Northern University.

Like Mancine, Thomay is a mathematics major and he sports a 3.81 GPA.

The Scots look to build on their 24-13 record this weekend as they close the regular season with a three-game series against Ohio Wesleyan University (12-22).
