A trio from The College of Wooster was selected to the NCAA Div. III All-Mideast Region Team, headlined by Jarrod Mancine, a unanimous first-team pick by D3baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association, which announced its award winners on Monday and Tuesday, respectively. Frank Vance earned second-team status from the ABCA as did Cal Thomay, and Vance also was a third-team award winner on D3baseball.com.

Mancine, previously named the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year, excelled at setting the table for Div. III's second-highest scoring offense (9.5 runs per game) all season, as the team's leadoff man hit .432 with 50 runs, 15 doubles, four home runs, and 35 RBI. The senior centerfielder currently ranks 28th nationally in batting average, 25th in runs, 12th in hits (73), 60th in walks (27), and 26th in on-base percentage (.517). Notably, he produced similar numbers no matter the competition, registering a .413 average, eight runs, four doubles, and nine RBI during 12 games against teams that qualified for the NCAA Div. III Championship field.

Vance, a junior third baseman, closed the 2014 season swinging a hot bat, as he safely hit in 27 of his last 43 at bats (.628) to up his season average to .417. His late-season surge also included an uptick in power, with four doubles, a home run, and 13 RBI coming during that 13-game stretch, giving him 11 doubles, four homers, and 39 RBI overall. Vance matched his runs driven in with runs scored (39), and he currently rates among the top-60 in Div. III in batting average, hits (65), and sacrifice flies (6).

Thomay, who started at first base most of the time before swapping corner infield positions with Vance late in the year, closed his career with his best season. He hit .379 with 11 doubles, a pair of home runs, and 38 RBI, while also walking 18 times as part of a .457 on-base percentage. A three-year starter, Thomay quietly carved out an impressive career, batting .345 and driving in 73 runs during 118 games, with several clutch hits and RBI along the way.

As a team, Wooster concluded the 2014 campaign with a 29-15 record and in second-place in the North Coast Athletic Conference.
