A College of Wooster comeback bid was stopped in its tracks when Case Western Reserve University turned a line drive into a double play to end the top of the seventh, and the Fighting Scots were unable to get any closer than 5-1 as that stood as the final score Sunday afternoon at Nobby's Ballpark in Cleveland, Ohio.

With their team down 5-0, Drew Tornow and Garrett Crum of Wooster (14-8) drew back-to-back walks to begin the seventh, then each advanced a base, courtesy of a balk, which chased starting pitcher Corey Brown. After the reliever struck out a pinch hitter, Joey Gilmore loaded the bases, thanks to another walk.

Next, the Scots appeared to catch a major break when Ryan Ostendorf's RBI grounder that plated Tornow was not fielded cleanly, keeping the bases loaded still with just one out and their No. 2 hitter coming to the plate. Jake Fling hit a sharp liner, only to see the shortstop glove it and double off the runner at second, ending Wooster's threat.

Case Western Reserve (21-12) turned another double play in the eighth inning, following a Michael Wielansky leadoff single, and the Spartans did not allow another base runner.

Brown kept the Scots' bats relatively quiet the first six innings, scattering four hits en route to the win (1-1).

Fling, Tornow, and Crum were the lone Wooster hitters to reach more than once, as each singled and walked, while pitching highlights included Nanak Saran setting down all six batters he faced in relief and Dylan McCreary's one-hit scoreless frame in the seventh.

The Scots will look to bounce back, starting with a home game against Denison University (19-5) on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
