Houdek Collects Third Career NCAC Pitcher-of-the-Week Honor

Michael Houdek

Senior Michael Houdek of The College of Wooster picked up North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week honors for his shutout against Colby College, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Houdek was in total control last Thursday as the left-hander struck out a career-high 10 batters while only allowing four hits. He recorded a strikeout in eight different innings, including two in the first and fourth. Notable, the 10 strikeouts marked the first double-digit strikeout game by a Fighting Scots since alumnus Keenan White fanned 14 Oberlin College batters on April 20, 2013.

Houdek picked up his 22nd career win during the 4-0 shutout and moved into a tie for fourth in wins among active Div. III pitchers in the process. Of note, the shutout marked the third of Houdek's career.

The weekly honor marked the third time Houdek's been tabbed as the NCAC Pitcher-of-the-Week during his career.

Wooster (10-1), ranked eighth in the most recent D3baseball.com/National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association top 25 poll, is slated to open the home portion of its schedule against Muskingum University (7-8) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Art Murray Field.
