WOOSTER, Ohio – Junior Drew Tornow hit a pair of home runs, and the eighth-ranked College of Wooster baseball team pounded out 16 hits, while the pitching staff only allowed six during a 14-4 win over the University of Pittsburg-Greensburg on Thursday afternoon at Art Murray Field.

Wooster (17-5) jumped on Pitt.-Greensburg (10-9) starter Bill Minick (0-2) from the get-go as the Fighting Scots plated three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Senior Jamie Lackner knocked in the first run of the day with a single through the left side two spots in the order before first-year Dan Harwood laced a RBI single up the middle. Later in the inning, sophomore Chandler Dippman drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-0.

Two innings later, Tornow legged out an inside the park home run as he drilled the payoff pitch out to left-center, and in the sixth inning, the right fielder launched his fourth round-tripper of the season out to right field to make it 9-2 at the time.

The Scots plated two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. In the fourth, sophomore Michael Wielansky and Lackner laced back-to-back two-out RBI singles in to left field. Then, in the fifth, sophomore Conner Thomson recorded his first hit with the Scots – a one-out double into left field – to plate Dippman, who led off the frame with a walk. Later, first-year Nick Strausbaugh punched a one-out single up the middle to knock Thomson in.

Wooster turned in its biggest inning offensively in the seventh as the Scots batted around and scored five runs. First-year Dan Gail sparked the rally with a pinch-hit double that marked his first collegiate hit. Next, senior Ryan Ostendorf, also appearing as a pinch-hitter, launched a 2-1 pitch out to left field for his first home run of the season. In the inning, the Scots first five hitters of the frame reached base safely, including Wielansky, who knocked in two with a double to right center. Later in the inning, Harwood slapped a double down the left field line to knock in Wielansky for the final run of the inning.

Sophomore Brian Murray allowed one hit over his first five innings of work during Thursday's win.

Sophomore Brian Murray (2-0) cruised through the first five innings with a one-out single marking the only hit he allowed before running into a jam in the sixth inning. For the game, Murray worked 5 1/3 innings allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four, but even more impressively, the right-hander ran his scoreless streak to 12 innings before the Bobcats plated a pair in the sixth.

Of note, Wooster bullpen allowed three hits the rest of the way with junior James Usher turning in 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief before Harwood pitched a scoreless eighth inning in his collegiate pitching debut. Wooster's defense came up in support of Usher with a 5-4-3 inning-ending double play in the sixth inning.

Offensively, eight of Wooster's nine starters recorded a hit on the day, and five of them had multi-hit games, including Harwood, who finished with a team-high three hits. Wielansky led the way in the RBI department with three while Strausbaugh touched home plate three time on the afternoon.

Defensively, Wielansky turned in a spectacular diving stop in the hole and was spot-on with his throw to first to end the top of the fourth inning.

Mike Parlak's two-run home run in the ninth inning headlined the Bobcats' offense.

Next, Wooster (6-2 North Coast Athletic Conference East Division) travels to Kenyon College (13-12, 5-3 NCAC East) for a four-game series with first pitch for Saturday's series-opener slated for noon.
