Fling Snares NCAC Player-of-the-Week Honor after 12 RBI, Nine Run Week

Jake Fling

Junior Jake Fling of The College of Wooster baseball team turned a dynamite week at the plate and on the bases into North Coast Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week honors, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Fling, who hit .522 (12-for-23) during Wooster's 5-0 week, recorded 12 RBI over that span, including at least two in each game. Additionally, the centerfielder had a trio of three-hit games, and scored nine times on the week.

Fling was rolling from the week's onset as he turned in a 6-for-8 mark at the plate during last week Monday's NCAC doubleheader sweep over Kenyon College. Fling had three RBI in each game, with two doubles and a triple headlining game one. Then, in the nightcap, Fling swiped four bases, a first for a Fighting Scot since recently inducted W Association Hall of Famer Matt Miller did so against Hiram College in 2004.

On Sunday, Fling delivered the go-ahead, two-run single in the top of the ninth inning during a 4-3 win at John Carroll University, and three days prior, went 3-for-4 with two RBI in an 8-5 win over Marietta College.

Fling is the third Scots to earn weekly honors from the NCAC this season, and he joins senior pitcher Michael Houdek and sophomore shortstop Michael Wielansky.

Wooster (24-5) returns to action with a 4 p.m. non-conference game against Case Western Reserve University (21-14) on Tuesday.
