Baldwin Wallace University pinch hitter Philip Wells delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning as the fifth-ranked College of Wooster baseball team's win streak was halted at nine with a 6-5 setback at Fisher Field in Berea, Ohio on Wednesday afternoon.

Wooster (25-6) was in command early, and in fact led 5-1 after the top of the sixth inning when sophomore Jacob Stuursma lifted a sacrifice fly out to left field to knock in junior Drew Tornow, who led off the inning with a walk, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Ryan Ostendorf, and stole third – his second stolen base of the afternoon.

In the bottom of the frame, Baldwin Wallace (20-13) answered with a four-spot to knot the game at five. Kevin Hagen drilled a two-out, three-run home run out to left field to pull the Yellow Jackets within one, and Jacob Bonner followed with a solo shot on a 2-2 pitch to bring Baldwin Wallace level.

Prior to the four-run sixth, junior Nanak Saran worked effectively, as he allowed five hits over his first five innings of work. The right-hander left the bases loaded in the first inning, and sophomore Michael Wielansky started a pair of 6-4-3 twin killers to erase leadoff singles in the second and fourth innings.

Wooster jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the contest as sophomore Garrett Crum laced a two-run base knock up the middle in the top of the first inning to bring in junior Jake Fling, who reached on a fielder's choice and Wielansky, who reached on an error.

In the second, Tornow started the inning with a triple, and made it 3-0 two batters later when Stuursma reached on an error. Of note, the three-bagger marked the ninth of Tornow's career, and the Scots now have four players with at least nine career triples.

Baldwin Wallace scored its first run of the clash when Cole Nieto clubbed a two-out round-tripper to make it 3-1 in the third inning, but Wooster answered right back in the top of the fourth frame. Tornow drew a one-out walk, and swiped second, before trotting home on an Ostendorf two-bagger.

Sophomore Brian Murray fell to 3-1 on the season after allowing a run on two hits in 2 1/3 innings of work. The righty also was aided by the Scots' third double play on the day, as senior Jamie Lackner started an inning-ending 3-6-3 twin killer to erase a one-out walk in the seventh inning.

Crum led the way offensive with two hits on the afternoon, while Tornow accounted for three of Wooster's five runs.

Hagen paced Baldwin Wallace's offense with a 2-for-4 game, highlighted by the three-run home run, while Evan Lovick worked two innings of scoreless relief to improve to 7-1 on the year.

Wooster (10-2 North Coast Athletic Conference East Division) hosts Hiram College (14-15, 4-8 NCAC East) this weekend with first pitch slated for noon on Saturday and Sunday.
