Saran's Back-to-Back Scoreless Outings Land Righty as NCAC Pitcher-of-the-Week

Nanak Saran

Junior Nanak Saran of The College of Wooster earned his second career North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week honor, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.

Saran won both of his starts last week, and didn't allow a run in 14 innings of work. The right-hander struck out 13 while only scattering eight hits on the week.

On Saturday, Saran fired a three-hit, complete-game shutout during an eight-inning 10-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan University. Saran didn't allow a hit until the sixth inning, and Wooster's defense helped the righty out with a 5-2-3 double play after Ohio Wesleyan's three hits. Saran then took care of the third out of the inning himself with a strikeout, after falling behind in the count 3-0.

Earlier in the week, Saran worked six scoreless innings during a 5-0 win over Hiram College on Monday. In that game, Saran allowed five hits while striking out six.

Saran was previously named the NCAC Pitcher-of-the-Week on May 2, 2016. Overall, Saran's the fourth Scot this season to earn weekly honors from the NCAC, as the junior joins classmate Jake Fling, senior Michael Houdek, and sophomore Michael Wielansky.

Wooster (32-8, 17-2 NCAC East Division) opens play at the NCAC Tournament against Denison University (29-10, 13-6 NCAC West Division) at 3 p.m. on Thursday at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.
