WOOSTER, Ohio – Senior Nanak Saran didn't allow a hit until the seventh inning of game one, legendary head coach Tim Pettorini moved into the top-five all-time in Div. III baseball wins, and the second-ranked College of Wooster baseball team's winning streak reached 20 in the nightcap of a 15-4, 8-4 Saturday afternoon sweep over Allegheny College at Art Murray Field.

Wooster skipper Tim Pettorini won his 1,198th game as the Fighting Scots' head coach on Saturday, a total that's the fifth-most all-time in Div. III.

Wooster's (25-3, 12-0 North Coast Athletic Conference) win in game one marked Pettorini's 1,197th for his career, and that moved Wooster's skipper past former Southwestern University (Texas) head coach Jim Mallon for fifth on the Div. III all-time list. Pettorini is now 33rd all-time in wins across all NCAA divisions.

Additionally, Wooster's win in the nightcap gave the Scots their second 20-game winning streak during Pettorini's tutelage. The other such streak occurred in 2007 when the Scots opened the year 27-0.

Saran (6-1) retired the first 16 Gators (12-16, 5-6 NCAC) he faced before Bret Kelly chased a 1-2 pitch down on the turf and reached on a wild pitch with one out in the sixth inning. After Saran recorded his fifth strikeout of the game, the senior right-hander picked off Kelly to get back to the bare minimum batters faced.

Cullen Flaherty broke up the no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the seventh inning, but Saran upped his strikeout haul to seven, and only allowed one more hit before turning the ball over to the bullpen for the final two innings.

Saran, whose effort was even more impressive given several extended stints in the dugout while Div. III's highest-scoring offense kept piling up the runs, was staked to a 4-0 lead after one inning. Junior Jacob Stuursma set the table with a leadoff single, and the Scots were quickly up 2-0 thanks to senior Jake Fling's second home run in as many games. Junior Michael Wielansky kept the offense clicking with a single up the middle, and he scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Nick Strausbaugh.

Two innings later, Wielansky beat out an infield single and scored on a RBI fielder's choice by senior Drew Tornow. Strausbaugh capped the three-run frame with a two-run double that made it 7-0.

Wielansky's big game continued in the fourth with a one-out round tripper, and the Scots upped the lead to 9-0 in the fifth inning when junior Chandler Dippman's RBI single brought in sophomore Dan Gail, who reached with a one-out two-bagger.

The Scots exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with Wielansky once again jump-starting the offense. The shortstop legged out his second infield single of the contest, and came in to score on a two-run base knock by junior Garrett Crum. Gail and Stuursma each roped RBI base knocks, and Fling capped the inning with a two-run two-bagger.

Wielansky went 4-for-5 with four runs scored in game one, while Crum, Fling, and Strausbaugh combined for 10 of Wooster's 15 RBI.

Of note, Fling surpassed W Association Hall of Famer Matt Miller for the most at bats in NCAC and program history in the eighth inning.

Max Sessions went 2-for-4 with his first hit coming in the form of a two-run single in the seventh inning.

In the nightcap, the Scots' four-run seventh inning proved to be the difference. Fling reached on an error to start the frame and came around to score on a Harwood double to center field. Two batters later, Tornow smashed a two-run single into right field, and later in the inning, Stuursma drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 8-4.

The Scots had to play some catchup in game two, but it didn't take long for Wooster's hitters to find their strides. Crum led off the second inning with a double, and Tornow zoomed all the way around to third for his 14th-career triple to pull Wooster within a run. Strausbaugh laced a single up the middle to tie the game at two, and junior Harrison Walls made it a 3-2 contest with a RBI base knock.

In the fourth inning, sophomore Aaron Spidell doubled to start the frame, and came in to score on a Dippman squeeze bunt.

Allegheny tied the game in the sixth on a two-run pinch-hit double by Brandon Pouch.

Tornow emerged as the Scots' top hitter in game two. The right fielder went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Walls tallied up a team-high three hits.

Noteworthy, Stuursma's remarkable hitting streak came to an end at 19 games in the series' finale.

Sophomore Max Lackner picked up his first collegiate win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Junior Wyatt Linde and senior James Usher pitched one-two-three eighth and ninth innings respectively to close out the Gators.

Wooster's weekend concludes with a non-conference single game against John Carroll University (16-12) on Sunday. First pitch from Art Murray Field is set for 1 p.m.
