Michael Wielansky was a tough out at the plate last week, and the junior's .655/.688/1.172 slash line led to his third career North Coast Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Week honor, as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Wielansky, who went 19-for-29 during a 5-1 week for Wooster, scored 16 runs, logged 13 RBI, and had nine extra base hits (five doubles, two triples, and two home runs). Wielansky moved into the program's top-10 list for career runs during the first game of Wooster's Wednesday sweep over Oberlin College, and his since upped his career total to 184.
Wielansky hit safely in every game, had three games with at least four hits, and his next base knock with be the 200th of his standout career.
The St. Louis, Mo. native logged five RBI in game two against Oberlin on Wednesday, and finished a home run shy of the cycle. Coincidentally, Wielansky went deep during Friday's 24-14 non-conference win at Muskingum University, a game in which he finished 5-for-6 with five RBI, three runs, and three extra base hits.
The slick-fielding shortstop sported a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage on the week as well.
Wielansky was previously the NCAC's Player-of-the-Week on May 2, 2016 and March 20, 2017.
Wielansky, and his Wooster (25-4) teammates are slated to be back in action at No. 10 Case Western Reserve University (25-6) at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25.
