Wide receiver Darrian Owens and safety Tyson Vogel, both freshmen for The College of Wooster, were selected as the North Coast Athletic Conference's Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for their performances during the Fighting Scots' 43-21 victory against Denison University on Oct. 26. Owens was also named to the D3football.com "Team of the Week."

Owens broke a school record for single-game receiving yards (230) on Wooster's 32nd offensive play of Saturday night's action, as he had receptions of 73, 51, 50, and 56 yards, scoring touchdowns on three of them. In between his first and second catch, both scores, Owens was part of another touchdown as he threw a two-yard pass to running back Sean Hackel in the end zone.

Owens's 230 receiving yards were 30 more than the previous best mark by a Scot player, Chris Cabot's 200 against Kenyon College Sept. 22, 2001, the first game played after the 9-11 terrorist attacks, and the three receiving touchdowns marked a first for Wooster since Oct. 3, 2009, at Earlham College. His average of 57.5 yards also was a school record for highest gain per reception.

While Owens excelled in the opening half, Vogel stood out in the second. The versatile first-year has played quarterback and on special teams' coverage units, and most recently, in the defensive backfield. He made three of his career-high seven tackles during a first half that saw the Scots' defense shutout Denison, then picked off one pass midway through the third quarter and another early in the fourth to halt Big Red drives, both in Wooster territory. Vogel returned the second interception 73 yards to the two, setting up the game-clinching touchdown (43-14). Also notable, he recorded a pass breakup between the two picks.

The Scots, who are now 4-3 overall and in third-place in the NCAC standings (4-2) a season after tying for eighth-place (1-6) and winning just two games (2-8), will be at DePauw University (3-4, 3-3 NCAC) Saturday afternoon.
