NFF Announces Outstanding List of Semifinalists for 2015 Campbell Trophy

Nick Flannery, a senior offensive lineman at The College of Wooster, has been selected as a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's 2015 Campbell Trophy, college football's premier scholar-athlete award, as announced by the NFF on Thursday and presented by Fidelity Investments®.

There are 135 semifinalists nationwide covering all levels of college football (NCAA FBS, FCS, Div. II, Div. III, and NAIA), and that group will be narrowed down to 15 finalists on Oct. 29. Each of the finalists receives an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class and travels to New York City for the NFF Annual Awards Dinner Dec. 8.

Flannery is in his fourth year as a starter (31 of 33 career games) for the Fighting Scots, currently at center after spending the last two seasons at left tackle and his freshman year at right tackle. Notable, he was picked as a team captain for 2015 by his peers.

As a junior, Flannery earned first-team Academic All-American® recognition in addition to a spot on the All-North Coast Athletic Conference Team after playing a pivotal role on a unit that ranked third in the league in rushing (172.9 ypg). The offense broke five significant school records his sophomore season, highlighted by total offense at 443.6 yards per game.

Academically, Flannery has a near-perfect grade-point average – 3.96 on a 4.00 scale – while majoring in psychology. He plans to pursue a Ph.D. in either industrial or organizational psychology.

During his limited free time, Flannery has volunteered for a variety of causes, including the College's 4Paws for Ability (training service dogs) and in the community at a food drive last winter and at an elementary school carnival in the spring.
