Tucker was a four-year letterman on the gridiron from 1961-64, and returned to the College two decades later to serve as the head football coach. While at the College, Tucker served as the throws coach for the track and field program in addition to his football duties.

Tucker came to the College from the Ohio State University, where he rose through the ranks to defensive coordinator. He later returned to serve as the Buckeyes' director of operations and was a part of the 2002 national championship team.

Tucker and his wife, Lynn '66, have three grown children: daughters Diana and Michelle, and a son, Scott.
