Lengyel Reunion Weekend Set for Oct. 13-14

Jack Lengyel

Football, lacrosse, basketball, and cheerleading alumni from 1966-74 are invited back to campus for a special "Jack Lengyel Reunion Weekend," set to take place October 13-14 in Wooster, Ohio.

The weekend kicks off with a reception from 6:30-10 p.m. on Friday on the Wooster Inn's patio with pizza from Coccia House.

On Saturday, alumni can show family members their favorite go-to spots on campus as guided tours will be held from 10 a.m. until noon. Then, attendees can join the office of alumni engagement for a barbecue lunch beginning at noon and stick around to cheer on this year's Fighting Scots football team when Wooster squares off with Oberlin College at 3 p.m.

After the game, attendees of the reunion are invited to a reception, dinner, and dancing with a live band at Spoon Market (144 W Liberty St.) from 6:30-11 p.m.

Lengyel, fellow former Wooster head coach Pat O'Brien, former assistant coach Roger Welsh, and the trio's spouses are slated to be on hand for the weekend's festivities.

Wooster alumni can register for the event here. A block of hotel rooms at a discounted rate is available at the Hampton Inn in Wooster.

About Jack Lengyel

Lengyel, perhaps best known for leading and rebuilding Marshall University's football program after its tragic 1970 plane crash, served as Wooster's head football and men's lacrosse coach from 1966-70 prior to heading to Marshall. On the gridiron, Lengyel guided the Scots to a 24-21 record, including an 8-1 mark in his final year leading the Black & Gold.

After Wooster, Lengyel led Marshall's football team for four years before entering the private sector for three years. Then, Lengyel embarked on a decorated and lengthy career in athletic administration, headlined by a 13-year stretch as the athletic director at the United States Naval Academy.

Upon retirement from the Naval Academy, Lengyel's served as a consultant specializing in strategic planning for athletic departments, spent three stints as interim athletic director at Div. I universities, and he's actively involved in the community.

Some of Lengyel's many noteworthy accomplishments include serving a term as president of the National Association of College Directions of America, served as a board member of the National Football Foundation, and Lengyel's earned numerous prestigious awards from both organizations.
