2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® Release

The College of Wooster's Patrick Mohorcic earned a spot on one the most prestigious off-the-field teams in college football, as the senior center was one of 22 student-athletes named to the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, as announced by Allstate Insurance Company and the American Football Coaches Association on Thursday.

"Patrick's ability to raise up those around him, and always put others ahead of himself, makes him an extremely deserving recipient of this truly special and unique award," said football head coach Frank Colaprete. "We're really proud and honored that Patrick was selected to the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®."

Added Mohorcic, "This is a big honor to be named to a team with amazing athletes who all strive to help others. All who were nominated could have earned this honor, and I am very humbled to earn this."

On campus, Mohorcic's extensive off-the-field involvement centers around the student organization Men Working For Change. Mohorcic, one of the students who helped revitalize the organization, advocates for the prevention of sexual violence on campus, and the organization serves as an awareness advocacy group about ways to prevent sexual assaults through seminars and other planned events on the College's campus.

Elsewhere on campus, Mohorcic was nominated by Wooster's faculty and his peers to take part in the College's "Student Leadership Institute," a class that develops leadership skills and how to use the social change model to impact the College and greater community. Mohorcic took that one step further as a founding member of "ScotsCare," a student organization with a vision to develop a positive connection between Wooster athletic programs and students with special needs within the Wooster Community.

A regular at APEX – the College's integrated center for academic and career advising, planning, and experiential learning – Mohorcic's gained countless connections with Wooster alumni in business, industry, and government positions through the College's CityTrek program. This past summer, he interned at SchermCo as a marketing assistant through the APEX fellowship program. Additionally, Mohorcic's used his connections formed through APEX to volunteer and work with political campaigns, city governments, foundations, and non-profits throughout Northeast Ohio.

Other notable connections for Mohorcic include his participation in the (i)Cleveland Summer Program, an experiential civic education that connects interns in Northeast Ohio to vast cultural, community, and leadership resources throughout the community.

Now, Mohorcic needs your support in the fan vote for the captain of the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®. Now through Nov. 23, fans are encouraged to visit ESPN.com/Allstate to vote for the team's captain, who will be honored at this season's The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN.

Mohorcic, and the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, will be invited to New Orleans to participate in a special community service project ahead of the 2018 Allstate® Sugar Bowl®, where the entire team will be recognized on the field at halftime.

The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team® was established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field. AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor college football players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate worked to present the award starting with the 2008 season. Currently, 11 student-athletes from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 11 student-athletes from the rest of college football (Football Championship Subdivision, Div. II, Div. III, and NAIA) are named to the team each year. Mohorcic's one of five Div. III student-athletes named to this year's team.
