Wooster's helmets had a "72" sticker added to them on Thursday afternoon in memory of senior Clayton Geib.

The College of Wooster, 3-0 for the first time since 2008, and 2-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, heads to Greencastle, Ind. with heavy hearts this week to take on DePauw University (2-0, 1-0 NCAC) on Saturday, Sept. 23. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m.

Wooster is coming off a 38-20 win over Ohio Wesleyan University on Black & Gold Weekend. In the game, Wooster's defense turned in three straight three-and-outs to start the game, while holding Ohio Wesleyan's offense to 11 total yards on nine plays. Offensively, Wooster scored on four straight drives, and that marked a 180-degree turnaround from last year's game that saw the Battling Bishops go up 28-0 on the Fighting Scots.

DePauw rolled to a 55-28 win over Hiram College on Saturday. Junior quarterback Matt Labus (Westfield, Ind./Guerin Catholic) completed 20-of-30 throws for 377 yards and five touchdowns.

All-Time Series: DePauw leads the all-time series 5-2, including a 4-1 mark as a member of the NCAC. DePauw has won three straight in the series, but Wooster did pick up a win at Greencastle in 2013, 27-24.

Last Meeting: On Sept. 17, 2016, Brandon Adams plunged in from one yard out and Trevor Bowden's (Eatonton, Ga./Gatewood Schools) ensuing extra-point make pulled Wooster within a field goal at 27-24 with 4:01 remaining in the game, but a 50-yard touchdown scamper from DePauw quarterback Matt Hunt, and a two-point conversion run by Ian Good proved too much to overcome as the Tigers topped the Scots 35-24 on Black & Gold Weekend. 

Remembering Clayton Geib: Senior right guard Clayton Geib (pronounced GIBE) (London, Ohio/London) died on Sunday, Sept. 17 after being transported to the hospital on Saturday after stating that he did not feel well, following the conclusion of the Wooster - Ohio Wesleyan football game, per the College's release. He was 21. A role model for the complete Div. III student-athlete experience, Geib was a standout chemistry major. Academically, he earned first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors as a junior, and was a two-time member of the NCAC Academic Honor Roll. On the field, Geib entered three games as a freshman and went on to earn a starting role as a sophomore, and started in 23 consecutive games. Last year, the lineman earned honorable mention all-conference honors. On Thursday's Wooster's helmets had a "72" sticker added to them in memory of Geib. Wooster will have 10 student-athletes on the field for its first offensive series on Saturday. Additionally, All NCAC contests on Saturday will have a moment of silence for Geib.

Mohorcic Named to Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®: Senior Patrick Mohorcic (Highland Hts., Ohio/Gilmour Academy) was named to the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®. Mohorcic, Wooster's center, is the first Scot to be named to the team in the history of the award. Only 22 student-athletes are named to this team annually. Mohorcic will represent the College at the 2018 Allstate® Sugar Bowl®, and will take part in a community service project in New Orleans.

Offense Notes: Senior quarterback Gary Muntean (Poland, Ohio/Struthers) threw four touchdown passes for the second straight game, and now has 43 for his career, good for a tie with alumnus Austin Holter for the fourth-most in program history. Muntean entered the week in the top 10 in Div. III in numerous offensive categories including points responsible for (84, second), passing efficiency (203.4, fifth), touchdown passes (11, seventh), completion percentage (.722, eighth), total offense per game (389.0, eighth), and passing yards (997, 10th). Sophomore Nick Strausbaugh (Fredericksburg, Ohio/Waynedale) continued to shine in the receiving game, as the speedster turned six receptions into 171 stripes - the ninth-most in a single game in program history. Strausbaugh's big day featured a 68-yard touchdown. His 386 yards receiving rank seventh in Div. III. Junior Connor Allan (East Aurora, N.Y./East Aurora) matched Strausbaugh for the team lead in touchdown receptions with four, thanks to a trio of first-half touchdown grabs in Saturday's win. Last year against DePauw, Allan had a monster day with 166 yards receiving on eight receptions. In Saturday's win, Wooster was a perfect 5-for-5 on fourth down. Six teams in Div. III have converted five fourth downs in a game this year, but Wooster's the lone team of the group to have a perfect conversion percentage on those tries. In fact, Wooster's a perfect 10-for-10 on fourth down conversions this year, and that leads Div. III. Wooster's well ahead of last year's pace in the rusing department with a 172.7 average this year after 103.3 yards per game last year.

Defense Notes: Wooster's young, energetic defense stole the show early in the Scots' win over the Battling Bishops as Ohio Wesleyan went three-and-out on its first three drives, and was held to 11 yards of total offense on the nine plays. Freshman Beau Greenwood (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) and senior Patrick Johnson (Homewood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) came through with big pass breakups on the opening three drives while junior Trent Leggett (Waynesburg, Ohio/Carrollton) had a big stop on the opening drive in run support. Sophomore D'Andre Brown (Atlanta, Ga./Benjamin E. Mays) and freshman Kobe Matesic (Buffalo, N.Y./West) dragged down the OWU ball carrier for no gain on the third drive of the game. Freshman Danté Fair (Pataskala, Ohio/Watkins Memorial) and sophomore Christian Santos (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood Senior) are tied for the team lead with 22 tackles.

Special Teams Notes: Wooster lined up in traditional punt formation for the first time this year during Saturday's win with Bowden punting twice for an average of 31.5 yards. Muntean has pooch-punted five times on the year, and he's averaging 42.4 yards per boot. Sophomore Nick Lines (Newark, Ohio/Heath) has been the hero on special teams coverage this fall with six tackles on kickoffs.
