National Football Foundation Campbell Trophy Semifinalist Release

Patrick Mohorcic, a senior offensive lineman at The College of Wooster, has been selected as a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's 2017 Campbell Trophy, college football's premier scholar-athlete award, as announced by the NFF & College Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

The 181 semifinalists nationwide cover all levels of college football (NCAA FBS, FCS, Div. II, Div. III, and NAIA), and that group will be narrowed down to 12-14 finalists on Nov. 1. Each finalist receives an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class and travels to New York City for the NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 5.

Mohorcic, who was recently named to the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team®, is a three-year starter on Wooster's offensive line, including the past two seasons at center. During his time as a starter, Wooster's averaged 27 points and 385.75 yards per game.

A political science major and business economics minor, Mohorcic sports a 3.61 GPA. Mohorcic's supplemented his studies in the classroom by taking advantage of the many resources offered by APEX – the College's integrated center for academic and career advising, planning, and experiential learning. Mohorcic's utilized his connections formed through APEX to volunteer and work with political campaigns, city governments, foundations, and non-profits throughout Northeast Ohio.

Outside of his studies and football, Mohorcic's an active member of the campus community, and his service profile is headlined by his work with the student organization Men Working For Change. Mohorcic's one of the students who helped revitalize the organization that advocates for the prevention of sexual violence on campus through seminars and other planned events..

Mohorcic's one of 33 semifinalists from Div. III and one of three from the North Coast Athletic Conference.
