Bowden Wins Fan Vote for Div. III HERO of the Week

Trevor Bowden

Trevor Bowden of The College of Wooster won this week's fan vote for the Div. III HERO of the Week for defense and special teams, as announced by HEROSports.com on Friday afternoon.

Bowden's school-record 78-yard punt came at a critical juncture during Wooster's 33-28 loss last Saturday to No. 25 Wabash College. The punt, which pinned Wabash at its own 1-yard line, came with about 10:30 remaining in the third quarter and the Little Giants leading 27-21.

On the ensuing Wabash drive, Wooster clamped down and forced the Little Giants to a three-and-out, thanks in large part to the play of senior Patrick Johnson and freshman Christian Dokes. Johnson knifed into the backfield to tackle Wabash's Ike James for a 3-yard loss, and that proved crucial as Dokes dragged down Matt Penola two years shy of the first-down marker on the next play, forcing the Little Giants to punt.

Upon receiving the ball back, Wooster needed one play offensively to find the end zone, and that was a 42-yard touchdown from senior Gary Muntean to sophomore Jacob Lewis. Bowden then chipped in the extra point to give Wooster a 28-27 lead with 8:02 to go in the third quarter.

Bowden's 422 votes were 210 higher than the next closest student-athlete in the five-player poll.

Wooster's idle this weekend, and hosts Oberlin College at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 14.
