Alvarez Handily Wins Fan Vote for Div. III HERO of the Week

Robert Alvarez

Robert Alvarez of The College of Wooster won the week eight fan vote for the Div. III HERO of the Week for defense and special teams, as announced by HEROSports.com on Friday afternoon.

Alvarez, who already earned a spot on the D3football.com Team-of-the-Week, presented by Scoutware, and the North Coast Athletic Conference's Defensive Player-of-the-Week earlier in the week, earned a spot on the list for his school record 4.5 sacks at Hiram College last Saturday.

Alvarez, who logged a career-high 11 tackles in the win, also recovered a fumble late in the game inside Hiram's 10-yard line.

This is the second time Wooster's won the HERO of the Week fan vote this season. Three weeks ago, senior Trevor Bowden won the vote for his school-record 78-yard punt in the Wabash College contest.

Alvarez's 326 votes were 163 higher than the next closest student-athlete in the five-player poll.

Wooster (5-2, 4-2 NCAC) travels to Kenyon College (0-7, 0-6 NCAC) for a 1 p.m. tilt on Saturday, Oct. 28.
