Zach Dennis, the longest tenured member of The College of Wooster football staff, and senior center Patrick Mohorcic will be honored at the Mike Cleary Northeastern Ohio Chapter of the National Football Foundation's annual scholar-athlete awards banquet on Tuesday, March 7 at LaCentre Banquet Facility in Westlake, Ohio. Dennis was selected as the chapter's College Assistant Coach-of-the-Year, while Mohorcic will receive a $2,000 postgraduate scholarship.

Dennis, Wooster's offensive and recruiting coordinator, led his charges to a top-30 showing in Div. III in total offense at 456.3 yards per game this past fall. Additionally, his play calling helped the Fighting Scots to a top-25 finish nationally in scoring offense, as Wooster averaged 37.8 points per Saturday. Dennis' offense broke or matched 28 school records on the gridiron this past fall, including new single-season team benchmarks for passing yards (3,232), passing touchdowns (35), and completion percentage (64.9).

Individually, senior Gary Muntean turned in another record-shattering season under center with his 3,556 yards of total offense, 3,165 passing yards, 33 passing touchdowns, and 172.33 passing efficiency points all ranking as new single-season program bests. Sophomore Nick Strausbaugh – Muntean's go-to target – finished in the top-10 nationally in receiving yards (1,294) and touchdowns (17), with the latter stat matching the single-season North Coast Athletic Conference record.

In all, six offensive starters earned all-conference honors in 2017, headlined by Muntean's Mike Gregory Award, given annually to the conference's top offensive player.

Mohorcic's postgraduate scholarship selection add to what's become one of the most impressive award hauls among any student-athlete in the history of varsity athletics at the College. The political science major is one of four finalists for the prestigious John Wooden Citizenship Cup, and earlier this year, the Highland Hts., Ohio native was voted team captain of the 2017 Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team®, one of the top off-the-field honors in collegiate football.

Upon graduating from the College this spring, Mohorcic plans to pursue a career in law or politics.
