The College of Wooster football team (1-2, 0-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) hosts DePauw University (1-1, 1-0 NCAC) on Black and Gold Weekend. Kickoff from John P. Papp Stadium is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22. Wooster turned in one of its top defensive performances under sixth-year head coach Frank Colaprete last Saturday, but the Fighting Scots came out on the wrong end of a 9-7 contest at Ohio Wesleyan University. DePauw scored 31 unanswered points against Hiram College and went on to top the Terriers 45-7. DePauw held Hiram to 196 yards of total offense.

All-Time Series: DePauw leads the all-time series 6-2, including a 5-1 mark as a member of the NCAC. DePauw has won four straight in the series. Wooster's last win in the series came in 2013 when the Scots traveled to Greencastle, Ind. and came home with a 27-24 victory. Wooster has one win at home in the series, and that was a 31-0 shutout in 1977. The next game in the series after Wooster's shutout took place in 2012.

Last Meeting: Wooster led briefly thanks to a 23-yard field goal by alumnus Trevor Bowden on the game's opening drive, but DePauw's high-powered offense clicked all afternoon during the Tigers' 51-24 win over the Fighting Scots. Alumnus Gary Muntean went 36-for-53 for 365 yards and two touchdowns, with his completions finishing one shy of his single-game program record of 37 set at Hiram College in 2015. Muntean spread his completions out to eight receivers including junior Nick Strausbaugh (Fredericksburg, Ohio/Waynedale), who surpassed 100 yards for the third straight game. Junior Christian Santos (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood Senior) led the defense with 11 tackles.

Offense Notes: Wooster is the only team in the NCAC to have a student-athlete averaging over 100 yards per game rushing and one over 100 yards per game receiving. Senior Antonio Bailey (Duluth, Ga./Meadowcreek) is second in the conference in carries (63) and yards (307), while Strausbaugh is third among receivers in receptions (20) and yards (312). Wooster's completing 68.3 percent of its pass attempts on the year, and that mark is good for 17th nationally. Freshman Mateo Renteria (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek) saw his first extensive action at quarterback last week. The rookie entered the game on the Scots' second drive and completed 18-of-24 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown. 

Defense Notes: Wooster's nine sacks against Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday were one shy of matching the single-game program record set against Oberlin College in 2000. The Ohio Wesleyan game also marked the first time since a Nov. 5, 2011 contest against Kenyon College in which Wooster held the opposition without a touchdown, and it was just the second time during the Colaprete era that the Scots held an opponent under 10 points. Wooster's interior defensive linemen - senior Marcus Bowers (Roseville, Mich./Fraser) and junior D'Andre Brown (Atlanta, Ga./Benjamin E. Mays) led the charge with a combined four sacks for a loss of 35 yards. Freshman Kellen Calhoun (Tipp City, Ohio/Bethel) added a pair of sacks and forced a fumble on one. Thanks to the nine sacks, Wooster held Ohio Wesleyan to negative two yards rushing. Wooster's 15 sacks are tied for the third-most in Div. III, and the Scots are in the top 15 nationally in rushing defense entering the week.

Special Teams Notes: Sophomore Cam Pollard (Cleveland, Ohio/John Hay) returned a pair of punts 45 yards on Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan, and is now averaging nearly 20 yards per runback. Freshmen Eric Kraus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) and Angelo Petracci (Youngstown, Ohio/Canfield) continued to lead the Scots' special teams with three tackles, all of which have come on kickoff coverage. 

This and That: Former Wooster great J. Richard "Rick" Drushal Jr. will be inducted to the College's W Association Hall of Fame on Friday night. Drushal, who started a school-record 42 games at left tackle, earned five All-American certificates across the various outlets that covered Div. III during his career, earned a NCAA postgraduate scholarship, signed a professional contract with the Cleveland Browns, and participated in the team's rookie minicamp. Today, he's a platforms data insights manger at Apple, Inc. Wooster has two student-athletes on its roster from Indiana - junior Grady McHugh (Coatesville, Ind./South Putnam) and freshman Isaiah Roach (Indianapolis, Ind./Jordan).
