National Football Foundation Campbell Trophy Semifinalists Release

Russell Boston, a senior wide receiver at The College of Wooster, has been selected as a semifinalist for the National Football Foundation's 2018 Campbell Trophy, college football's premier scholar-athlete award, as announced by the NFF and College Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

The 179 semifinalists nationwide cover all levels of college football (NCAA FBS, FCS, Div. II, Div. III, and NAIA) and that group will be narrowed down to 12-14 finalists on Oct. 31. Each of the finalists receives an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as a member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class and travels to New York City for the NFF Annual Awards Dinner on Dec. 4.

Boston, a four-year contributor to the football team, is currently a starting slot receiver. The senior started his career as a running back before transitioning to wide receiver midway through his freshman year. A projected 3.5-year starter, Boston has 86 career receptions that have gone for 813 yards and five touchdowns.

Academically, Boston sports a 3.55 GPA while majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology. He plans to pursue a doctorate degree in the medical sciences.

Outside of football and his studies, Boston is a health coach through Wooster Community Care Network and is a peer tutor.
