Senior Salute: Beau Greenwood

Beau Greenwood sidebar Q&A

Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Beau Greenwood, a communications studies major from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Greenwood is a member of the football team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose to attend Wooster because of the premier education that it provides to its students and to play for a mentor like Coach (Frank) Colaprete, who I knew would teach me the life skills I need in order to be successful after college.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete is very important to me. It has allowed for me to develop skills such as communication, determination, and persistence. Being a Fighting Scot is not just about performing on the field. It is also about performing in the classroom and around the community.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite academic memory is working with Dr. (Denise) Bostdorff through Junior Independent Study and Senior Independent Study. Dr. Bostdorff pushed me to exceed my expectations and develop writing skills that I did not previously have. My favorite athletic memory is beating Wabash College because it was a goal of mine since I was a first-year.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: Meeting new lifelong friends, having coaches and professors push you to be the best you can be, and developing skills you will use for the rest of your life.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I was involved with Men Working for Change.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Coach Colaprete has made the biggest impact on me because even when I was struggling, he still believed in me to succeed. Coach Colaprete has showed me that in order to be great, you need to hold yourself to a higher standard. Without Coach Colaprete, I would not be the man I am today, nor would I have achieved the amount of athletic or academic success I have achieved so far.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: Dr. Bostdorff and Dr. (Drew) Pasteur have been the two most influential advisors and professors for me. Both professors went above and beyond to help me succeed. They helped me believe in myself to accomplish certain academic works at times when I didn't believe in myself.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study is about a small spice company called Penzeys Spices. Penzeys was a very vocal corporation fighting for equal rights and voicing their opinion about the presidency as well as impeachment. I analyzed these messages and created broad speculations.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I've been involved with Men Working for Change the past two years. This is a student organization that has a long standing within the College and Wooster communities. This organization fights against domestic abuse hoping to create some change within this area. Men Working for Change allows for men to talk about domestic abuse openly and find a way to solve this issue.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Never doubt yourself.
