Senior Salute: Brandon Vincenzo

Brandon Vincenzo sidebar Q&A

Throughout the spring and summer, we'll be honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Brandon Vincenzo, a business economics major from North Ridgeville, Ohio. Vincenzo is a member of the football team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: Wooster was the best balance of academics and athletics for me. I liked the idea of a small campus with short walks to class and the athletic facilities. The football uniform designs were also a big plus.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?|
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete has allowed me to be a part of great tradition while competing at a high level athletically. There are not many other schools with tradition like Wooster.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: My favorite memory is being part of the opening kickoff against Hiram College as a first-year. Their team came out to the "Purge Siren" and they were hyped up on the sideline. Returning that kickoff for a touchdown – and school-record 97 yards – set the tone (seven school records were broken or matched) for the rest of the game.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: I've been able to keep playing the sport I love while still getting a great education. The relationships I have developed with some of my teammates will last a lifetime.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: Along with many of the other football players, I am involved with Men Working for Change. We are an anti-domestic violence group which raises awareness on campus.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Dr. (James) Burnell made the greatest impact on me. His teaching style allowed me to be more critical of my own research, along with being able to understand high-level research outside of my field.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: The study tables through APEX (Wooster's center for advising, planning, and experiential learning) as a first-year helped me to balance academics and athletics. The time commitment is much larger in college, so having this program helped me to be more organized.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study involves a Japanese stock trading indicator called the Ichimoku system. I am evaluating the system to see if it can effectively predict future stock price movements.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: This past summer, I started an internship at a private wealth management firm called Capital Planners. Through this experience, I met a great group of other student-athletes, and I became good friends with them. The internship also allowed me to grow my network and develop more as a professional in financial services.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: I would tell my first-year self to try and find a study group in each class. This is something I really didn't start doing until my junior year, and it helped tremendously.
