Stellar September Performances Land Barrett on Fred Mitchell Award Watch List

Lake Barrett College of Wooster Football Lake Barrett, The College of Wooster football team's sensational placekicker, is among the names on September's Fred Mitchell Award Watch List, which was announced on Friday.

Barrett didn't miss a kick in September, as the junior went 17-for-17 on extra-point tries and made his lone field goal attempt of 21 yards against DePauw University. Earlier in September, Barrett ranked as high as fourth within NCAA Div. III for most extra-point makes, thanks to Wooster's hot start to the season. Per the September 12 NCAA Div. III statistics report, Barrett was one of just five placekickers in Div. III to make at least 13 extra-point tries over the first two weeks of the season, and he was just one of four from that group to not miss.

Barrett's currently tops in program history in field goal percentage, having made 80 percent (12-of-15) over his career. His 12 field goals are tied for the ninth-most in program history, and he holds the program's single-season record with 11. He's 47-for-48 lifetime on extra-point tries, and he's just the 10th placekicker to make over 40 in a career in program history.

The biology and education major worked as a research assistant in the College's biology department this summer. He also spent time working a youth summer camp and giving kicking lessons at his high school.

The Fred Mitchell Award is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate placekicker among more than 750 non-Football Bowl Subdivision teams. A selection committee reviews nominees and selects the recipient based on excellence on the football field and in the community. The committee solicits worthy candidates from college athletic communication professionals and distributes a Watch List for the award each month during the season.
