Renteria This Week's NCAC Offensive Athlete of the Week

Mateo Renteria College of Wooster football The College of Wooster's Mateo Renteria turned in arguably his best game as the Fighting Scots' starting quarterback, and on Monday, the North Coast Athletic Conference selected the senior as its NCAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Renteria completed 28-of-41 passes for a career-high 408 yards in Wooster's 44-41 win at previously undefeated Wabash College. The environmental studies major was responsible for four touchdowns, as Wooster hung the most points on Wabash in a game played at Little Giant Stadium since 2008, and the most in a regular-season contest since 2001. Renteria's 408 yards marked the sixth-most in program history, and he's now fifth all-time in passing touchdowns with 45.

Renteria's day, as far as touchdowns are concerned, started on Wooster's opening drive when he found first-year Bryant Douglas II from six yards out. His 15-yard touchdown rush put the Scots up 13-10 with 12:30 left in the first half on Saturday. Next, Renteria's 38-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Mitchell Heilman helped pad Wooster's lead to 20-10 at the 9:43 mark of the second quarter.

In the second half, Renteria hooked up with sophomore Carter Warstler on a 27-yard touchdown on the first play of the fourth quarter. Wooster led 41-34 at that point, thanks to junior Lake Barrett's extra point.

Wooster, now 4-2, 3-2 NCAC, takes on Denison University (4-2, 4-1 NCAC) on the road at 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 23.
