Lake Barrett College of Wooster football Div. III CoSIDA Academic All-America® football release

The College of Wooster's Lake Barrett was voted a first-team College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American®, which was announced by the national organization on Thursday.

"We are so proud and happy for Lake," shared football head coach Frank Colaprete, who has had five of his Fighting Scots voted Academic All-Americans® in his nine years at Wooster. "Lake is a true scholar-athlete who truly pushes himself to be the best on the field and in the classroom."

Barrett, one of the record five Scots named all-region by D3football.com this fall, earned his second All-North Coast Athletic Conference award. The junior was a perfect 47-of-47 on extra-point kicks this fall, becoming the first Scot in program history to make over 40 in a year without a miss. In fact, of the placekickers ranked within the top 205 in NCAA Div. III scoring this fall, Barrett is one of three with at least 45 extra-point makes without a miss. He went 8-of-10 on field goals this fall, with a long of 42 yards, and is ranked ninth nationally in field-goal percentage. In all, Barrett scored 71 points this fall, the second-most in program history by a placekicker. He now has two career 15-point games, hitting the mark again against Hiram College. There, Barrett was 3-for-3 on field goals and 6-for-6 on extra points.

Wooster's career record-holder in extra-point percentage (98.6; 73-for-74) and field-goal percentage (79.2; 19-for-24) exploded onto the scene in 2019 with a single-season program-record 11 field goals. That year, Barrett went 11-for-14 on field goals and 26-for-27 on extra-point tries. He ranked 16th nationally and tops in the NCAC with a 78.6 field-goal percentage and was in the top-20 nationally in field goals per game.

The two-time Fred Mitchell Award nominee is already fourth in program history with 19 career field goals and fifth with 73 career extra points, despite playing in just 20 counting games.

The biology and education major worked as a research assistant on campus over the summer in the biology department, and he is currently working with a colony of strawberry dart frogs as a zoology lab assistant. Barrett's research also has him organizing specimens for the College's natural history collection, and he previously was a STEM Zone intern, where he provided tutoring to students in an introduction cellular biology course.

Back home, Barrett's worked a summer camp for youth ages 3-8 and is actively involved in his hometown community by giving kicking lessons to local youth.

Wooster football student-athletes have earned 15 Academic All-America® awards – the most of any sport at the College – and the College now has 56 all-time Academic All-America® honorees. Wooster legend Blake Moore '80 headlines the football selections as a three-time Academic All-American®, while Barrett is the first football player selected since Eric Kraus '21 was a second-team honoree in 2019.

Of note, four Wooster student-athletes – Barrett, women's soccer's Alexa Bencic, volleyball's Katie Billetdeaux, and volleyball's Syd Case – were voted CoSIDA Academic All-Americans® this fall, tying the Scots record for most selections in an academic year. Wooster previously had four student-athletes earn Academic All-America® honors during the 2006-07, 2011-12, 2012-13, and 2014-15 academic years.
