Journell Takes NCAC Defensive Player of the Week Honor

Tate Journell, Wooster Football A shutout-preserving interception on The College of Wooster's day of allowing less than 100 yards of offense landed sophomore cornerback Tate Journell as the North Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. The NCAC announced this week's honorees on Tuesday morning.

Journell picked off Oberlin College quarterback Drew Nye at Wooster's 5-yard line in the fourth quarter and ran his fourth interception of the year back 62 yards. The drive was just the second time Oberlin had the ball on Wooster's side of the field in Saturday's rout, and that was only because the Fighting Scots turned the ball over at the 3-yard line.

Journell stopped Oberlin the first time the Yeomen crept into Wooster territory with a forced fumble that was recovered by junior Tyler Miller. Journell added three solo tackles and a breakup in a game that saw Oberlin muster just 95 yards, the fewest allowed by Wooster in a game since 2004.

Wooster (4-5, 3-4 NCAC) plays at Wittenberg University (6-3, 5-2 NCAC) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 11 in the final game of the 2023 season.
