Renteria Set to Continue Professional Career in Sweden

Mateo Renteria, Wooster football Mateo Renteria, who set numerous school records as The College of Wooster football team's quarterback from 2018-22, recently signed a professional contact with the Stockholm Mean Machines, and is set to be a quarterback on the team for the upcoming Superserien season.

Renteria, who joins the Swedish reigning champions, played last season with Les Cougars de Saint-Ouen-L'Aumône in France. There, he was the team's offensive coordinator and installed the team's playbook, blocking schemes, called plays, and broke down game film, all while playing quarterback.

At Wooster, the two-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection set career records for total offense (10,614 yards), passing completions (770), passing attempts (1,270), passing yards (10,083), and passing touchdowns (78). Renteria ranks second at Wooster in total plays (1,575), average yards per play (6.7), 300-yard passing games (11), completion percentage (60.6), and passing efficiency points (143.34).

In 2022, Renteria capped his career by completing 174-of-301 passes for 2,244 yards and 18 touchdowns. His seven rushing touchdowns were tied for the team lead and he finished the year with 159 yards on 68 carries. Renteria became Wooster's first quarterback with four 2,000-yard passing seasons and was one of only three active players in Div. III during the 2022 season who threw for over 10,000 yards.

The four-time NCAC Athlete of the Week threw for a school-record 3,327 yards in 2021. His 29 passing touchdowns that season are the second-most in program history, and Wooster featured Div. III's seventh-best passing offense on the year. Renteria's 323.7 passing yards per game were the fifth-most nationally, and he was in the top-25 in the country in total yards, passing touchdowns, and points responsible for.

Renteria earned first-team all-conference laurels as a sophomore after completing 202-of-333 passes for 2,483 yards. He led the NCAC in passing yards that year and tied for second in touchdowns with 17.

Renteria's new team has won four of the last six Swedish titles, including the last two. Stockholm will also be competing in the Central European Football League Tournament. You can follow Renteria's new league at https://www.superserien.se/.
