Scots’ Seven-Game Winning Streak Snapped, Fall to Frostburg 3-1

WOOSTER, Ohio – Two goals in the final 13:09 of regulation for Frostburg State University proved to be too much for The College of Wooster field hockey team to overcome on Saturday morning, suffering its first loss of the season at Cindy Barr Memorial Field. The Bobcats upended Wooster in the fourth meeting all-time between the two schools by a count of 3-1.
           
Prior to Saturday's contest, Frostburg State held a slim 2-1 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams met last season as well, with Wooster prevailing on the road 2-1, however, the Bobcats triumphed in their only other games – 2-0 in 1986 and 1-0 in 1987.
           
On Saturday, Wooster (9-3) was behind 1-0 at the break, despite outshooting the Bobcats 11-6. The lone goal in the opening stanza came on a penalty corner as Sami Topolski tipped in a Breanne Russell pass with 7:40 left.
           
The Scots continued to control play in the second half, finishing with a 20-9 advantage in shots, and 17-4 bulge in penalty corners. Despite Wooster's offensive pressure, Topolski put Frostburg State ahead by a 2-0 count via an unassisted goal with 13:01 remaining in the second stanza. However, Amanda Artman's goal, her 16th tally of the fall, assisted by Eileen Barrer with 6:19 remaining, was the lone time Wooster cracked the scoreboard.           
           
The Bobcats (11-3) tacked on a goal with 4:09 showing on the clock, as Brandi Mixell found the back of the Wooster cage on a scramble in front.
          
In goal, freshman Madalyn Myers was credited with four saves for Wooster, while Samantha Foland made 13 saves for the Bobcats.
           
Wooster will look to start a new winning streak, and keep its perfect 6-0 North Coast Athletic Conference mark intact, when it hosts Oberlin College (1-11, 0-7 NCAC) on Thursday for an NCAC match-up at Cindy Barr Memorial Field.
