The College of Wooster field hockey team eased past Bethany College thanks to offensive fireworks from some new faces, as freshmen sisters Kayla O'Connor (3) and Kerry O'Connor (1) combined to score four times, and standout defender Josie Rey rattled in the first goal of her four-year career, to lead the Fighting Scots to a lopsided 5-0 victory Sunday afternoon at Bethany, W. Va.

Kayla put Wooster's (1-1) initial tally on the board just over 11 minutes into the opening stanza, as she rifled a shot from long distance that deflected off a defender and went into the goal.

The Scots' next two scores came only 1:26 apart, as Rey recorded her first-ever goal on a penalty corner, and shortly after, Kerry collected a pass and beat the 'keeper to put Wooster ahead 3-0.

Less than a minute before the halftime break, Kayla scored her second goal of the game on a dish from her sister Kerry to cap off a dominant first half that saw the Scots outshoot Bethany (0-1) by a 15-2 margin.

Wooster took its foot off the pedal a bit in the second half, but Kayla was able to complete the first hat trick of her young career about midway through the period when she scored off an assist from Nikki Sever.

The defense wasn't tested much on the afternoon, as Wooster controlled possession and allowed Bethany just five shot attempts and one penalty corner. Goalkeepers Meredith Farley and Carrie Mount split time evenly, playing the first half and second half, respectively, and Mount was credited with the teams' only save.

Wooster will kick off the North Coast Athletic Conference portion of its schedule Sept. 10, when it visits Ohio Wesleyan University at 4:30 p.m.
