Leah Prescott had a breakout performance for The College of Wooster field hockey team, as she scored the first two goals of her career, including the game-winner midway through the second half, to lead the Fighting Scots past Ohio Wesleyan University 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon in their North Coast Athletic Conference opener.

The Bishops (1-3, 0-2 NCAC) got on the scoreboard first just 3:55 into the action, when Jenna Ortega scored off a penalty corner to put her team ahead 1-0. Prescott gave Wooster (2-1, 1-0 NCAC) the equalizer in the middle parts of the first half, when she gathered a through ball from Nikki Sever and rattled the cage to make it 1-1.

The score remained knotted until early in the second half, when Kayla O'Connor scored on Sever's second assist of the game by beating the goalkeeper just inside the left post, giving Wooster a short-lived one-goal lead.

Just 0:46 ticks later, the Bishops tied the game again at 2-2 off the stick of Venessa Menerey, but Prescott still had another one in her. The newcomer scored the biggest goal of her young career in the 48th-minute off a lead pass up field from Kerry O'Connor, and the Scots hung on to win 3-2.

After outshooting Ohio Wesleyan by a 9-7 margin in the first half, Wooster was outshot 14-3 after the break, but was able to make its limited chances count by converting 2-of-3 into goals.

Goalkeeper Meredith Farley racked up seven saves in the win, including two crucial ones that came after Prescott scored the go-ahead goal.

Wooster will play against another conference foe on the road on Saturday, when it visits Wittenberg University for a 1 p.m. start.
