The College of Wooster played Denison University to within one goal during the opening half, but the Big Red broke open Wednesday afternoon's North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey tilt via a four-goal explosion in the second half for a 5-1 triumph at Granville, Ohio.

Denison (6-1, 4-1 NCAC) scored less than a minute into the game's action and not again until right after halftime, 28 seconds to be exact.

For a while that looked like it might be the only scoring of the contest, but then midway through the second, both offenses got going. First, the Big Red netted a pair just 50 seconds apart, and 3:22 later, Wooster (3-5, 2-3 NCAC) got on the board when Taylor Thorp drove in a feed from Nikki Sever, completing a breakaway and pulling the Fighting Scots within 4-1. It marked Thorp's third goal this fall and Sever's sixth assist in eight games.

Denison responded about six minutes later to seal the outcome.

Defensively, Wooster 'keeper Meredith Farley was credited with six saves and Julia Franceschi one defensive save.

The Scots will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon when they host Oberlin College (2-5, 1-3 NCAC) at noon.
