Junior forward Taylor Thorp exploded for five goals in leading The College of Wooster to a dominant 8-0 victory over Earlham College in North Coast Athletic Conference field hockey action Friday afternoon at Richmond, Ind.

Thorp, who also contributed an assist for an 11-point day, tied an NCAC single-game record with the five goals, which has occurred just four other times in the conference's 30-year history, and it is believed to be the highest scoring day by a Fighting Scot since Cindy Runnette had a series of six- and seven-goal games way back in 1981.

On Friday, Thorp scored four goals before 20 minutes had even elapsed, connecting at the 5:28, 9:10, 16:29, and 19:38 marks of the opening half. The middle two were assisted by Nikki Sever, while Megan McGinley had a helper on the first.

Leah Prescott, with an assist from Anjela Galimberti, gave Wooster (8-6, 6-4 NCAC) a 5-0 halftime cushion.

In the second half, senior Josie Rey, a standout at the back position, scored the second goal of her career, converting a penalty stroke, and Thorp fed Sever for a goal, before her NCAC-record tying fifth via an Isabel Perman assist.

Thorp's five goals nearly matched her season total entering the day (six), and she raised her career total to 13.

Overall, the Scots outshot Earlham (2-13, 0-11 NCAC) by a 33-2 count, with goalie Meredith Farley picking up saves on both of the Quakers' shot attempts to preserve the shutout.

Wooster stays in Indiana and will be at DePauw University (10-4, 8-1 NCAC) Saturday afternoon.
