WOOSTER, Ohio – For the second consecutive game, The College of Wooster field hockey team pushed one of the North Coast Athletic Conference co-leaders to the brink, but ended up just a little short as this time Denison University scored 5:20 into Tuesday's second overtime to edge the Fighting Scots 2-1 on Andrew Turf Field at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (8-8, 6-6 NCAC), which was ahead of DePauw University 2-1 late in an NCAC contest on Saturday before falling 3-2, had the majority of the offensive opportunities during the first half with Denison (15-1, 11-1 NCAC) as it owned a 7-4 advantage in the shot department.

Both teams scored early goals. First, the Big Red's Alex B. Berman connected on a rebound shot 5:43 into the action after Scot 'keeper Meredith Farley had stopped an initial attempt by Taylor Bacon.

Wooster knotted it up just 3:47 later, when during a penalty corner, Josie Rey received a pass at the top of the arc and rolled a shot through the defense into the right corner of the cage. She was assisted by Kerry O'Connor. For Rey, a senior defensive standout, it marked her third career goal, all coming this fall.

The two squads then went up-and-down the field for another 80-plus minutes before another goal was tallied.

Before the game-winner, the Scots may have had the best chance early in the first overtime. O'Connor placed a shot on that was deflected past the Denison goalie, however, back Molly Chapman cleared it away to extend the game.

Next, it was time for Wooster's defense to shine, specifically Farley. The net-minder made six of her 12 saves in the first extra session, none better than when the Big Red's top scorer, Katie McMahon, had back-to-back point-blank shots turned away.

Denison continued to pressure the Scots' backfield early in the second overtime, and Berman delivered again. She received a cross from Allie Bacon on the right side, and Berman's initial attempt at the ball was blocked by Wooster's Megan McGinley, but she got off a second hit and slid it into the right side of the cage to end the thrilling game.

On Friday, the Scots will be at Oberlin College (4-10, 3-8 NCAC).
