Wooster's Season Ends in NCAC Tournament Semifinals

The College of Wooster field hockey team had its season come to an end Wednesday afternoon, as DePauw University upended the Fighting Scots 6-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals at Greencastle, Ind.

The Scots (9-10), like most teams in the NCAC, have struggled against the Tigers (16-4), who made a run all the way to the semifinals of the 2012 NCAA Div. III Tournament, since they entered the league. Wooster appeared to be turning a corner this season, though, as it played DePauw tough, leading 2-1 late before an eventual 3-2 setback on Oct. 19.

Today's match-up was competitive in the first half, with DePauw earning a 2-0 advantage at the halftime break, but the Tigers' offense exploded for another three goals less than 10 minutes into the second stanza, and then added a sixth late, to create the final margin.

Wooster's best offensive chances came late in the contest, when it took two penalty corners, with one resulting in a shot attempt by Josie Rey that required a save by the goalkeeper.

For Rey, along with fellow seniors Edith Anderson, Meredith Farley, and Nikki Sever, it marked the last game of their collegiate careers. Farley made 12 saves in goal.
