Three-Goal Second Half Lifts Wooster to 4-1 Win

WOOSTER, Ohio - Senior Kerry O'Connor bookended The College of Wooster field hockey's teams scoring, as the Fighting Scots won their first game of the year by a 4-1 count over Concordia University Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (1-3) struck first in the 17th minute when O'Connor deflected a loose ball right in front of the cage in for her first goal of the season. Notable, O'Connor's score marked the first time Wooster scored first in a contest on the year.

Sophomore Erika Womack scored one of Wooster's four goals on the afternoon.

The Scots really pulled away in the second half, striking for three scores, including two that came 1:41 apart. First, senior Leah Prescott took a feed from sophomore Rose Taylor and pivoted to fire a shot past Falcons' 'keeper Alyssa Palmer giving Wooster the 2-1 lead. Notable, the goal marked Prescott's team-leading third of the season.  Then, sophomore Erika Womack stayed with a play in the 57th minute, a put home a rebound after her initial shot attempt was kicked aside by Palmer. Wooster's third second-half score came quickly after that when O'Connor won a loose ball and dribbled in for her second score of the day.

Concordia's (0-2) goal came off the stick of Rachel Scholz, who banged in a loose ball in front of the cage with eight minutes left in the first half. At the time, that goal tied the contest at one.

Palmer led the Falcons, and really kept Concordia in the game for a majority of the contest. She recorded 21 saves on the afternoon.

Sophomore Lida LeVine added four saves for Wooster, and picked up her first career win as the Scots' goalkeeper.

Wooster more than quadrupled Concordia's shot chance (33-8), and had a 13-5 edge on penalty corners.

Wooster faces a quick turnaround and hosts Transylvania University (0-2) at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
