Multitude of Contributions Leads Wooster Past Ohio Wesleyan 4-1

Lauren Abbott
Leah Prescott

Four different student-athletes scored and three of them added an assist as The College of Wooster field hockey team topped Ohio Wesleyan University 4-1 on Saturday afternoon at Selby Stadium in Delaware, Ohio.

Wooster (4-5, 2-3 North Coast Athletic Conference) established a good chunk of its offensive success right in the middle of the circle. That's where the Fighting Scots struck for their first goal just over 10 minutes into the contest. Senior Kayla O'Connor ran into the circle and delivered a perfect pass to junior Lauren Abbott for Abbott's fourth goal of the season.

Then, just over five minutes later, Wooster extended its lead to two when Leah Prescott knocked in her fourth goal of the season. The senior followed her initial shot that was turned aside by Ohio Wesleyan's (4-4, 2-3 NCAC) Jackie Feliciano and chipped in the rebound.

Twins Kayla O'Connor and Kerry O'Connor connected on the third goal of the first half for Wooster. Kerry fed her pass to the center of the field and Kayla was able to fire it into the cage for her team-leading sixth goal of the season.

Ohio Wesleyan scored its lone goal of the day right at the end of the first half. As time expired, the Battling Bishops' Emily Black redirected a feed from Courtney Peterson to cap off a penalty corner.

Wooster pushed its lead back to three just under 10 minutes into the second half when Prescott set up Kerry O'Connor with a shot from the middle of the circle.

Not to be overshadowed was Wooster's defense as the Scots' defenders blocked 14 of the Bishops' 22 shot attempts on their way towards the cage. Additionally, Wooster warded off 15 of Ohio Wesleyan's 16 penalty corner attempts.

Sophomore Lida LeVine added two saves in the winning effort.

Next, Wooster plays at Washington & Jefferson College (7-0) in the Scots' final non-conference contest of the game.
