Wooster Falls 4-0 to Undefeated Washington & Jefferson College

Leah Prescott

Washington & Jefferson College's Amanda Steffey and Rachel Buyan combined for an eight-point performance as the Presidents extended their win streak to eight with a 4-0 victory over The College of Wooster on Wednesday evening at Washington, Pa.

Washington & Jefferson (8-0) outshot Wooster 22-15, while Presidents goalkeeper Karlie Baran recorded 11 saves on the night.

After just 81 seconds into the match, a successful redirection from Buyan off the shot from Steffey had the Fighting Scots (4-5, 2-3 NCAC) battling from behind for nearly the entire game.

In the 12th minute, it was Steffey converting on the goal with an unassisted strike from the center of the box to make it a 2-0 Presidents lead.

The Scots picked up the offensive pressure, however, logging five of the game's next seven shots.

Junior Lauren Abbott did well to test the 'keeper in the 16th minute with a shot on frame, as senior Leah Prescott managed a rebound shot, but it sailed just wide and out of play.

Prescott nearly halved the deficit in the 31st minute, but an attentive Kelsey Bowman stood firm to block the senior's shot and record the defensive save.

Bowman would do the same just seven seconds before the end of the first half, this time denying first-year Harriet Suddith's shot on goal.

Again, the Scots fell prey to an early goal after the start of the second half.

Rachel Fromm sent in a deep pass to Steffey, who put-away her second goal of the game in the 37th minute, bringing the Presidents' lead to three.

Washington & Jefferson continued to press, logging the next three shots before a Wooster goalkeeper change in the in the 44th minute, as first-year Madi Thomas came in for sophomore Lida LeVine.

In the 61st minute, Laura O'Malley put away the final goal of the game off a penalty corner taken by Buyan.

The Scots return to action on Saturday at John P. Papp Stadium, where they have a 3-2 record this season, as they get set to host Oberlin College (0-8, 0-6 NCAC) at 11 a.m.
