In the final game of the 2016 season, four seniors each tallied a goal for The College of Wooster field hockey team – with three recording an assist – as the Fighting Scots mounted a 4-3 comeback win over Oberlin College on Saturday afternoon at Oberlin, Ohio.

Seniors Rachel Wetzel, Kerry O'Connor, Kayla O'Connor, and Leah Prescott each marked the score sheet for the Scots, while the latter three earned an assist.

After conceding in the third minute off a rebound put-away from Oberlin's Julia Birenbaum, Wooster (9-10, 7-7 North Coast Athletic Conference) responded right away as Wetzel fired a powerful strike past Oberlin (1-16, 1-13 NCAC) 'keeper Maggie Gossiaux to equalize in the eighth minute.

Wetzel ended the season with a career-high in both goals and assists with four and seven, respectively.

Sophomore Maeven Barry nearly gave Wooster the go-ahead in the 14th minute after a one-on-one opportunity with Gossiaux, who dropped to the ground quickly in the 50-50 battle to shut off any potential angle before winning the challenge and clearing the ball from danger.

Despite giving up the early goal, the Scots maintained a heavy offensive presence early on, as five of Wooster's first six shots fell on target.

In the 18th minute, Prescott did well to offer a through pass to Kayla O'Connor, who one-timed it on target before being denied by a Gossiaux kick save.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lida LeVine saved a rocket of a shot in the 32nd minute to keep the score line level going into the halftime break.

Just over five minutes into the second half, Kerry O'Connor delivered her career-best 11th goal of the season on a far-post pass from Prescott, who sent it into danger from just inside the arc for her sixth assist of the year – also marking a career-high for the senior forward.

Oberlin responded just seconds into the 54th minute, as Ariana Enzerink connected on a pass to Maureen Coffey, who spun around to create separation before firing it into the back of the cage to get the Yeowomen back to within one with just under 17 minutes remaining.

Sophmore Erika Womack retaliated with two quick shots on target in the 54th and 56th minutes, respectively, before Prescott sunk the game-winner in the 58th minute off a redirection from Kayla O'Connor.

Despite a brilliant defensive-save effort from first-year Harriet Sudduth, Oberlin again brought it back to within one after Luisa McGarvey converted on a redirection from Libby Royer in the 67th minute.

The Yeowomen recorded one last penalty corner in the 68th minute, which stood as the final major offensive chance for either team.

Notable, of the 11 points earned by Wooster on the day, all were recorded by seniors (four goals, three assists), while Kayla and Kerry O'Connor, Prescott, and Wetzel accounted for nearly 72 percent of the Scots' goal production this year (33).

The Scots finished the season with a three-win improvement from a year ago, including three more wins in conference play, while head coach Brenda Meese ended the season with her 302nd career win while at Wooster.
