A 13-4 victory over Hendrix College left The College of Wooster field hockey team one goal shy of tying the North Coast Athletic Conference record for most goals in a match by a single team – a record held by Wooster –  as the Fighting Scots capped their two-game trip down south with a victory on Sunday afternoon at Danville, Ky.

While the current record – set by Wooster on Sept. 17, 1985, with a 14-0 win over Muskingum University – remains intact, the Scots' (3-1) nevertheless put on quite the offensive showcase on Sunday, outscoring Hendrix 7-1 in the first half after going down a goal just :16 in behind an early tally from the Warrior's Holly Heeb.

In response, senior captain Lauren Abbott notched a pair of goals within six minutes of each other as the Scots regained the lead before the 10-minute mark. From there, first-years Kristina Miesel, Sammi Pavlecic, and Caitlyn O'Connor all got on the score sheet before sophomore Harriet Sudduth capped the first-half scoring with her second of the season.

Hendrix (1-1) opened the second-half's scoring before O'Connor made it a hat trick with back-to-back goals within 90 seconds of each other around the 40-minute mark.

After a Warriors' goal by Tegan Waller, Wooster posted four unanswered tallies behind contributions from Pavlecic and Sudduth before first-year Maggie Brown knocked in a pair, including her first collegiate goal.

Through four games, Wooster's offensive effort has made its way atop the NCAC chart, noted especially by the Scots' underclassmen. O'Connor leads the league with five goals, followed by classmate Sydney Schuster and Pavlecic, who are tied for third with three each. Meanwhile, junior Erika Womack, who scored Wooster's third goal on a penalty stroke, contributed with three assists on the day, which puts her tied for second within the NCAC in assists (3) and points (9) while O'Connor leads the conference with 11 points.

Of note, the combined 17 goals marks a new NCAC record for total goals in a game, eclipsing the previous mark of 14 set by Wooster in the aforementioned 1985 win over Muskingum. In addition, at 3-1, Wooster continues its best start to the season since 2009.
