Scots Rebound with 3-0 Road Shutout Over Transylvania

The College of Wooster field hockey team followed up a 3-0 setback to Wittenberg University on Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Transylvania University on Sunday afternoon at Lexington, Ky. 

The Fighting Scots (5-2, 2-1 North Coast Athletic Conference) enter this weekend's home doubleheader against Earlham College (1-3, 1-2 NCAC) and DePauw University (3-3, 2-1 NCAC) with their best season start since 2009 when Wooster reached the Second Round of the NCAA Div. III Tournament.

Against Transylvania (2-5), junior captain Erika Womack tallied the game-winner in the 12th minute for her fourth of the season.

In the 33rd, first-year Sammi Pavlecic doubled the advantage with an unassisted strike.

Of note, four of Wooster's five wins have come via shutout. 

Come the second the half, senior captain Lauren Abbott tallied her third goal of the season and third of the game off the assist from first-year Katie Harvey to seal the win in the 64th minute.

Comparatively, Wooster outshot Transylvania 20-8, with Wooster totaling eight shots on goal compared to Transylvania's four.

First-year 'keeper Katie Shideler garnered her fourth shutout of the season, making four saves in the process. Shideler stands in the league's top-five in saves (49), goals-against average (1.30), goals against (9), and save percentage (.845), the latter of which ranking first in the NCAC.

On the year, 10 different Scots have found the back of the cage, including six players with at least three goals.

Wooster plays host to Earlham on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 11 a.m. before welcoming preseason conference favorite DePauw on Sunday, Sept. 24, at noon.
